Tuba People IPA

I wanted to make a slightly more ridiculous IPA and Jenessa’s reaction to “The First 20 Million Is The Hardest” movie, “these tuba people are ridiculous” seemed appropriate.  It’s in the secondary right now, but tasted it already out of the primary and it’s amazing even without carbonation (though I’m noticing I like all my beer…)

14B. American IPA.  OG: 1.072.  FG: 1.020.  IBU: 79.  ABV: 6.4%.

Notes:

  • Chinook hops I received from Midwest were only 10.3%AA, instead of 13, so IBU is 79 instead of 99 :(
  • Starter: 1.25 Qt. Starter with WLP001
  • 9/13/10: Brewed
    • Mash: 4Qt. at 161 degrees
    • Sparge: 2Qt. at 170 degrees
    • Pitched at 78 degrees
    • gravity at 3 gal: 1.12, OG at 5gal: 1.072
  • 9/21/10: Racked to secondary, gravity: 1.020 (ABV: 6.4% so far)
  • 10/10/10: Bottled.  FG: 1.020, ABV: 6.4%

Big Bear Chase Me Brown Ale

Made for our trip to Morehouse lake this summer, this was meant to be a fairly dry brown ale good for the summer.  Turned out alright, but didn’t attenuate quite as highly as I wanted.

11C. Northern English Brown.  OG: 1.058.  FG: 1.019.  IBU: 30.  ABV: 5.1%

Notes:

  • 6/16/10: 1.5 Qt. Starter, used Wyeast 1028, London Ale, as I couldn’t find any WLP013
  • 6/20/10: Brewed
    • 4 Qt. Mash, strike at 161 degrees
    • 2 Qt. Sparge at 180 degrees
    • pitched at 76 degrees
    • screwed up and dropped the stopper in the carboy :(
    • Gravity @ 3 gal: 1.096, @5 gal, OG: 1.058
  • 6/26/10: Racked to secondary, gravity: 1.019
  • 7/13/10: Bottled, FG: 1.019, ABV: 5.1% Read the rest of this entry »

Feisty Chihuahua IPA

Second time I brewed this one and just as delicious, if not more so, as the first time.  I drink it too fast though and can’t keep it around.

14B. American IPA.  OG: 1.067, FG: 1.013, IBU: 65, ABV: 6.3% Read the rest of this entry »

Super Sierra Pale Ale

Catching up on brewing notes finally; made this one back in April.

This was meant to be a Sierra Nevada clone but a bit stronger in both alcohol and bitterness, but not quite an IPA.  Turned out very drinkable and went quickly :)

10A. American Pale Ale,  OG: 1.073,  FG: 1.019,  48 IBU
